Our campus and facilities
One of the first things visitors notice about Thames British School is the amount of space we enjoy, both inside and out, compared with many schools in central Madrid. Unlike schools that have adapted existing buildings, we are fortunate to have purpose-built facilities designed specifically for teaching and learning.
Over the years, we have continually expanded and developed our campus, which now spans two floors of outstanding facilities, complemented by impressive outdoor spaces.
Learning environments
Our school offers specialist facilities for all stages of learning:
-Early Years and Primary department: Bright, spacious classrooms designed for learning through play, with direct access to individual outdoor playgrounds. Each class benefits from its own dedicated bathrooms and private play area, ensuring comfort, safety, and a sense of independence for every child.
-Secondary classrooms: Modern, light-filled spaces that encourage curiosity and collaboration.
-Science labs: Fully equipped laboratories where Secondary students explore scientific concepts using cutting-edge technology.
-ICT Suite, Music room, SEN room: Supporting academic and personal development for every student.
-Hall and Arts Hall: Flexible spaces for assemblies, performances, exhibitions and creative learning.
Cinema room
One of the unique highlights of our school is its dedicated Cinema Room. This modern, fully equipped space offers students an immersive environment for learning, creativity, and collaboration. It is used not only for film screenings and media studies but also for interactive lessons, presentations, and special events that bring subjects to life.
Forest School
We are proud to offer a Forest School programme, giving students the opportunity to learn and explore in a natural outdoor environment. Through hands-on activities, teamwork, and problem-solving in the forest, children develop resilience, independence, and creativity while strengthening their connection with nature. This approach not only supports their physical and emotional wellbeing but also enhances social skills and fosters a sense of responsibility for the environment.
Physical Education and sports
At our school, we place a strong emphasis on Physical Education and sports, supported by excellent outdoor facilities. Students enjoy access to a full-sized grass football field, a basketball court, and a wide range of PE equipment. These resources allow children to stay active, develop their skills, and experience the joy of sports as part of their daily school life.
Library
Each section of the school has its own library, filled with books, audiovisual materials, and resources suitable for each age group. Our new Primary library is an open, welcoming space, encouraging students to explore, read, and discover new ideas every day.
Outdoor learning and play
Our campus offers generous outdoor areas designed to inspire learning and play:
–Early Years outdoor area: Safe, stimulating space where children learn and play together.
-Primary playground: Includes climbing equipment, and soft-ground play areas.
-Courtyards and outdoor resources: Swings, gym equipment, a football and sports pitch and more , each designed to support physical development and imaginative play.
Arts and creativity
-Art areas: Students have access to a wide range of materials for drawing, painting, and three-dimensional studies. Creativity is limited only by their imagination!
-Secondary art wing: Modern classrooms and an open exhibition area to display student work.
-Theatre – Assembly Hall: A multifunctional space for performing arts, seating over 150, equipped with a voice amplification system, computerised lighting, and air conditioning.
Sports and Physical Education
Our campus includes sports facilities that support a wide range of activities:
-Football and multi-use sports pitches.
–Athletics, hockey, volleyball, and other team and individual sports.
-Outdoor and indoor areas designed to promote fitness, teamwork, and healthy competition.
