A Level Pathway
Cambridge International A Levels at Thames British School.
Preparing Students for university and beyond
Our Cambridge International A Level programme, offered to students in Years 12–13, provides an intensive bridge between secondary education and the demands of independent university study. Over the two-year course, students are continually assessed by subject teachers through a combination of tests, essays, and one-on-one meetings, receiving detailed, constructive feedback at every stage. The programme concludes with external examinations, the results of which are recognised by universities worldwide when selecting candidates for their programmes.
At Thames, we offer a broad curriculum giving every student the opportunity to discover their passion and pursue excellence. Our teachers are not only subject specialists but also skilled educators who inspire, challenge, and build meaningful relationships with their students.
We also offer our students the opportunity to sit the PCE exams (Pruebas de Competencias Específicas). These exams serve as a valuable bridge between the maximum A Level points and the higher entry requirements demanded by the most competitive courses at Spanish state universities. By providing access to the PCE, we ensure our students have every pathway open to them when pursuing their academic goals.
We strongly believe that the journey is as important as the destination. Academic excellence is vital, but so is nurturing the whole student through a holistic approach to education, cultivating habits of independent learning, intellectual curiosity, and a genuine love of learning. We encourage students to enjoy their studies, thrive, and have fun, ensuring they leave fully prepared for higher education, equipped not only academically but also socially, emotionally, and personally, rather than feeling burnt out or disengaged.
Our House system provides every student with at least two dedicated adults overseeing their progress, offering support, guidance, and encouragement along the way.
Senior pupils consistently achieve high levels of attainment in public examinations, with almost all securing places at their first or second-choice universities.
