Preparing Students for the Future
Secondary School is the culmination of a Thames British School education and a rewarding stage in which our pupils make the most of the wide range of opportunities available to them.
Global citizens
A tailored academic journey.
Our bespoke curriculum in the final years ensures that students are fully prepared for the next step in their academic journey. In Year 11, pupils sit their IGCSE examinations, and qualify for the ESO certificate, followed by the choice of A Levels (Years 12–13) or the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. This flexibility allows each student to choose the pathway that best suits their aspirations, strengths, and goals.
We prepare our students to become confident global citizens. By the time they graduate, they are able to communicate effectively in three languages: English, Spanish, French, or German. This strong multilingual foundation not only broadens their cultural horizons but also gives them a significant advantage in higher education and their future careers, opening doors to opportunities all over the world.
At Thames, we are committed to equipping our students not only with excellent academic results but also, through a holistic approach to education, with the skills, confidence, and independence needed to thrive at leading universities and beyond.
IGCSE Programme at Thames British School
Prepared for A Levels and/or the IB Diploma Programme.
At Thames British School, we are proud to offer the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) programme, an internationally recognised qualification that prepares students for the challenges of A Levels and/or the International Baccalaureate (IB).
Our students typically study between 5 and 7 subjects, with English, Mathematics, and Science forming the core foundation. Additional optional subjects are available, allowing each student to follow a pathway that matches their strengths, interests, and aspirations.
At the end of Year 11, students sit external examinations in each subject they have studied. Successful completion leads to the award of IGCSE Certificates, which are highly valued by schools and universities worldwide. Importantly, the IGCSE also serves as a convalidation of the British system and is formally recognised in Spain as equivalent to the ESO (Educación Secundaria Obligatoria). This means that Thames students graduate from Year 11 with both the British IGCSE certificates and the official Spanish ESO recognition.
The IGCSE programme at Thames not only builds strong academic foundations but also develops critical thinking, problem-solving, and independent learning skills, essential qualities for success in Sixth Form, higher education, and future careers.
