Pastoral care
Pastoral Care & Wellbeing
At Thames British School, the wellbeing of our pupils is at the very heart of everything we do. We pride ourselves on providing individual pastoral care of the highest quality, ensuring that every child feels safe, supported, and valued.
A caring and supportive environment
The welfare of our students is our number one priority.
Thames is a close-knit international community, where our size and ethos allow us to truly know each child as an individual. With encouragement from teachers and staff, students are guided to develop their interests, build their strengths, and explore new talents, creating a rich and balanced portfolio of personal achievement.
Our approach to Pastoral care
Always someone to turn to.
Every student is supported by a dedicated personal tutor, who monitors both academic progress and personal wellbeing. Tutors are readily available to offer guidance, encouragement, and practical advice throughout each student’s educational journey.
Beyond this, pastoral care extends across all areas of school life. From Early Years through to Secondary and Sixth Form, teachers take an active role in nurturing confidence, resilience, and respect. Students know they always have someone they can turn to,whether it is their tutor, a teacher, or a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
Professional support
When it matters most.
When additional help is needed, Thames provides access to professional support. Our safeguarding team, counsellors, and wellbeing coordinators ensure that pupils feel listened to and cared for, and that any concerns are addressed promptly and sensitively.
Safeguarding
Safety, support, and care, always.
We take safeguarding extremely seriously. Students have full access to the safeguarding team, who are always available to ensure that their safety and welfare are protected. Clear policies and procedures, shaped around the best interests of our pupils, ensure that every child is given the right conditions in which to thrive.

Nurturing individuals, building community
Our pastoral care is designed to nurture individuality while helping students appreciate and value the diversity of others. Guided by a holistic approach to education, we foster not only academic growth but also emotional, social, and personal development. Within our warm, inclusive community, pupils develop empathy, responsibility, and the skills they need to navigate both school life and the wider world with confidence.
At Thames British School, we believe that happy students are successful students, and that is why wellbeing, care, and support will always remain at the heart of our mission.
